“I have come that they might have life. And that they might have it more abundantly!”
- Jesus
What is abundant life? What is having life “more abundantly”?
I think about men who did great things for the Lord and lived full, exciting and extraordinary lives. People like Peter and Paul… converting thousands, witnessing or even performing miracles… culminating in sacrificing this life for their faith. Surely this is abundant life. But what about about Jimmy and Steve… Nancy and Lula… Wes and Stacy… What about them? They haven’t done these things. Do all of these people have the same God? Of course they do. Does this verse apply to them, too? What’s the difference?
Does God call some and not call others? I don’t think so.
Does he call us in the same way? I think not.
He may call you to drop all you own and move to Africa to feed the poor… to be the poor even. He may call you to move to China and convert the communists. He may call you to write and sell millions of books and make millions of dollars for the Lord. Or, he might tell you to go home to your family or friends and just be. But he isn’t calling you to just be ordinary… to have an ordinary life.
No matter what God calls you to do… He invites you to do it with abundance and with great joy. What a privilege.
