Goodbye Grammy, Hello Casa

When we were planning for our arrival in Peru, we knew that our first days would be long days in taxis and going all over the city trying to find a place to live.  So, on the advice of some that had gone before us, we asked my mom, AKA Grammy, to come with us for the first week or so.  And so she did… fortunately, her job is flexible so she was able to come for a whole 2 weeks and a couple of days.  I am about to make a serious understatement… She is TOTALLY AWESOME.  Stacy and I spent many days away from our temporary apartment where Grammy stayed and played, and put down for naps and changed diapers and washed dishes and slaved over laundry all with a smile on her face.  We love you Grammy!

Inevitably, she had to go home.  We were getting really worried that she’d be here for more than two weeks and have to go home with us still without a permanent place to call home.  But, hooray, we have finally found a fantastic house.  All along we’ve been trying to find the right house in the right part of town and in our price range.  After looking at almost 30 houses and not finding what we were looking for I was really struggling with each of those things… Are we being too picky about the house?  Is our price range reasonable?  Should we be looking elsewhere?  Well, eventually we felt like we were trying to push too hard for the location that we thought was right and decided to look a little farther north.  We looked at only three homes in that part of the city and really loved 2 of them… one of them was really fantastic with lots of room for our growing boys and hosting friends and family… with a “big” yard for our boys to run off some that energy.  (Big is VERY relative when it comes to yards here.)  Anyways… we had found our new home… the day before my mom had to leave no less!  So, we have a place to live… well, we will on Tuesday anyways.   After taking about 20 minutes to read the 3 page contract and trip to the local lawyers office where they inspected our passports and took our fingerprints and scrutinized everything… then the obligatory minimum 30 minute wait for anything in Peru, and it was all official.

Thanks to all of you who’ve been praying for us… and especially thank you, Grammy!  Now all we have to do is figure out how to get our stuff moved in and find some things to put in it so we don’t have to sit on the floor.

P.S.  The internet in our temp apartment isn’t working so updates may continue to be sparse for a while until we can get it fixed… that also means that if you email us it will take a little longer for us to get back to you.
