Things are still going great for us here in our new home. Honestly, the last couple of weeks we’ve been feeling the stresses a little more and are making the effort to get in bed on time and make sure we’re getting the rest we need… physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But, like I said, things are really good.
Every day, everywhere we turn, every person we meet is an experience worth sharing. When we open the door to our fridge or look out the window of our car or look out at the view from our house, every single thing is different. Different than what we are familiar with, different than what’s normal in the US of A. Our days have been long and full of new experiences and new people and I think to myself all day long, “I should put this on the blog.” But I didn’t have my camera with me and when I think about what to share there is a stack of potential posts looming so tall over my head that I’ve ended up not sharing much. So, I decided today that the best way to get over that is to just do it, one thing at a time. So, I’m going to try to share the little things and the big things and everything in between… one post at a time. And… I decided that I’m going to carry my camera with me more often… which I’ve been hesitant to do for fear of losing it or having it stolen. Well… better to have a stolen camera but tons of pictures than a nice camera safely in a drawer at home but nothing to show for it.
So, let’s get started… today I ran to the store… our H-E-B away from H-E-B, Wong. Wong is one of the best grocery store chains here in Lima. They have a great variety of all kinds of foods… as good as you’ll find here. There is so much to share about what you can find in a grocery store here… just think piles of chicken hearts, entire frozen pigs and/or vaccuum packed bunny rabbits to eat. But that’s a post for another day… for now I’ll just introduce you.
Internet, meet Wong. Wong, Internet.
I took this next picture, much to my cashiers dismay, to try to convey the sheer number of employees in this place at any given time. See if you can spot them all, in this picture there are 21 Wong employees, but there were just as many in the other direction and on busy days, like Sundays, you can find at least one employee on every aisle.
On the left, Breakfast (Whole Foods). On the Right, “Food”… Oils and Tuna. Next aisle down you’ll find Oatmeal, Coffee, Milk (stored on the shelf at room temp.) and cereals… followed by crackers, cookies and sugar… all the way at the end is produce. Pretty much like any grocery store in the states… just completely different at the same time.
Well… I’m going to try to do my best to share little bits of life more often. If there’s something you’re curious about, let me know.
