The Jesus I have come to know.

Let the weak say, ‘I am strong’
Let the poor say, ‘I am rich’
Let the blind say, ‘I can see’

We sang these lyrics in church this morning. It got me thinking a little…

Why did Jesus go around doing miracles? Growing up it was always very simple… Jesus did miracles so that more people would believe. Kind of like advertising. Shock value. Very professional. Very shrewd business really.

This doesn’t sound at all like the Jesus that I have come to know. Yes, I am sure that the miraculous things that Jesus did caused many doubters to become believers. I am pretty sure Jesus was happy about that. But I think it was much more personal. I don’t think he healed the crippled man and told him “your sins are forgiven, get up and walk” for the shock value. He loved that man, it hurt his heart see that man in pain. I don’t think he gave sight to the man blind from birth for the wow factor. I think he felt a deep and sincere compassion for the man that had never set sight on God’s creation. Jesus loved these people… I think it is as simple as that. He loves you. And he loves me. This is why he has blessed me in unimaginable ways… given me riches beyond belief. Maybe not the money and extravagant lifestyle that I once craved. But he has let the spiritual beggar that I was say, “I am rich!”

I thank the Lord everyday for the richness of his Love.
